words from students
I’m privileged to be able to work with a wide variety of students in my work, many from backgrounds most people wouldn’t associate with having a regular yoga practice. Below is a selection of quotes from clients from both my private weekly classes and some of the individuals I meet through working with partners such as Calderdale & Kirklees Recovery and Wellbeing College, Acorn Recovery Projects and the NHS.
OMG, it was gorgeous. I feel so chilled out and mellow and relaxed -- in the same way I feel after a really good massage. Don't get me wrong, it was challenging at times, but it was also so calm. I would use the word breathtaking -- tis one of my favourites but I think breathgiving might be more accurate . Fabulous, utterly fabulous.

“Again Carla a Sunday reset… I don’t know how you do it but you literally take my booze craving end of the weekend collapse and turn it into something healthy, wholesome and strong…”
— Class Student
“Your classes I can certainly say they are well thought out.
It is nice to have subjects or themes and to be made aware of the changing seasons and cycles. There is always something new and carefully considered in your classes and you are not afraid to be a bit unorthodox, which is really refreshing!
I would certainly recommend your approach to people who might never have done yoga, because it is flexible and can accommodate a wide range of physical abilities and standards of health whilst still encompassing the spiritual and holistic views of the discipline.
It is also great that you explain everything so well, so folk know what the purpose is behind the exercises.
You are a very caring person and this is amply displayed in your approach and people respond positively to it.”

The following testimonies have been written by people I have worked with through my partnership work with addiction recovery services. Whilst many of the students I meet in these settings are reluctant at first, they often experience some of the most profound progress after adopting a yoga practice. I consider it an honour to work with these clients.
“The benefits I noticed from yoga; learning techniques of breathing to relax. Loosening up stressed muscles and joints. Setting me up for the day with a more positive mindset. One of the hardest things in my recovery was learning how to turn off after digging deep into my past. Learning breathing and movement techniques designed to just relax in the here and now which can also be used in my own time are, I feel, an essential part of my recovery which I will carry on throughout my life. We come into recovery to learn how to feel and how to manage those feelings. It is also so important to learn how to be at peace and just in the here and now, I feel more relaxed, confident and able to cope with adversity much more.”

“The aches and pains in my leg have eased because of Carla and the yoga that she teaches, the techniques have helped. I am now able to feel more grounded, more clear headed and relaxed.
I never did yoga until I came into Acorn and since I have been doing it I have enjoyed doing the sessions. What I found most helpful was being able to clear my mind and be able to move a lot better. The time I have been doing yoga here has helped me unwind and be more relaxed. That is down to the instructor and how she eases you into doing yoga when you start and how polite and friendly Carla is as a teacher.
Thanks to yoga I am making better choices for myself. I am not getting as stressed or annoyed as much as I did and I can now relax a lot more.”
